Seabase Information Night (Parents Please Attend) May 20th

Posted on May 19 2009 - 12:39pm
At the troop meeting on May 20th, we will have pictures from past Troop 113 Seabase Experiences, and have those that went share info about their trip as well as provide info about the next possible trip. Scouts and parents, both, should hear this information in order to be aware of the details of this opportunity since the families of those that plan to attend will be involved in the process.

The Florida National High Adventure Sea Base is owned and operated by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America to offer unique educational aquatic programs to our members. Located in Islamorada and on Summerland Key in the beautiful Florida Keys, as well as Marsh Harbour, Great Abaco Island, Bahamas, the heart of the Florida Keys, the near shore reefs and crystal clear waters offer unparalleled opportunities for long term and short term programs year round.

Scout Sunday - July 26th

Posted on May 4 2009 - 11:46am
We will celebrate Scout Sunday at the UCC on July 26th this year. As many scouts as are able should plan to attend Sunday Services at 9:30 at the UCC. We want to thank the church for their support of Troop 113 and share with them some of our activities from the past year. We will likely need refreshments to share as well-- more details will be settled as the date draws nearer, but keep the date open.

Leader Training

Posted on Apr 30 2009 - 9:20am
There is a real need for more leaders in Troop 113 to take the online "Hazardous Weather" class. If you complete this training, be sure to let either Mr Beadle or Mr Boehly know the date of completion so it can be recorded in the troop's database.

Also a reminder that all leaders need to complete "Youth Protection Training" no less frequently than every three years.

There are many other online training opportunities for leaders as well!

The online training center can be accessed here: http://olc.scouting.org/

Preventing the Flu: Good Health Habits Can Help Stop Germs

Posted on Apr 28 2009 - 10:35am
Avoid close contact.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick. When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.

Stay home when you are sick.
If possible, stay home from work, school, Troop Meetings, Camping Trips and errands when you are sick. You will help prevent others from catching your illness.

Cover your mouth and nose.
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. It may prevent those around you from getting sick.

Clean your hands.
Washing your hands often will help protect you from germs. Hand sanitizer helps, too.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
Germs are often spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth.

Practice other good health habits.
Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.
